A story of two high school boys learning how to take care of an injured kitten.
The words ignited in his brain, unceasingly repeating in his ears like the echoes of water hitting on the solid wall in the bathroom. Wei WuXian’s clutch was so cold on his wrist that he was sure the reason to why his skin was so hot was because he’s burning from Wei WuXian’s words. It’s not like they hadn’t been seeing each other naked before, to be fair. But they were small and they never thought too much about things, let alone being embarrassed about it. When they were still in kindergarten, Wei WuXian loved to come over to Lan WangJi’s bathtub and squeeze in the same tub as him despite the tub being small and only fitting for one person. When Lan WangJi wanted to leave, Wei WuXian would always seize him on the wrist and tell him not to, that he wanted to bathe with him.
Just like how he did now.
But they were small; they won’t think too much. Now, however, it’s different. They were both fifteen. Not only that, they’d made their feelings clear to each other.
It’s like they’re both balancing on each other’s nerves, careful not to break the limit, yet curiously trying to push the other over the limit at the same time. They’re both childhood friends, they grew up together, they met each other almost every day. They’re so familiar with each other yet when new feelings bloomed it felt like they’re unfamiliar with the familiarity all over again.
Lan WangJi looked over his shoulder, just enough to catch Wei WuXian grinning brightly at him, as if whatever he just suggested was nothing but normal.
“C’mon, you haven’t showered too, right? What’s there to be embarrassed about? We’re both men, and it’s not like I haven’t seen you being naked and wet before, haven’t I?”
Lan WangJi felt heat rising to the tips of his ears.
Wei WuXian didn’t sound like he meant otherwise when he said that so maybe…
…maybe he just really, genuinely wanted to shower with Lan WangJi?
Lan WangJi closed his eyes, a soft sigh escaped his lips. He knew how persistent Wei WuXian can be if he was to say no now. Above all, it’s probably really nothing. He’s probably just thinking too much when Wei WuXian wasn’t implying anything else.
And that’s really pathetic on its own.
The bathroom was already warm by the time Lan WangJi stepped in, completely naked. His toes flinched as they touched the chilled ceramic floor. His mind was in shreds, his body simply acting out of his own instincts as he enveloped his body in the steam filling up the room. A heavy breath left his chest the moment he made out Wei WuXian’s shadow amidst the fog. He was bathing his skin lightly, water dripping along the ravishing lines of his muscles, slightly tanned from his habitual exposure to the sun when he’s out playing sports. Lan WangJi had caught sight of the tan on his skin even on normal occasions, but he couldn’t help but swallow down his throat when he noticed how fair his skin was under his hands, his torso, alongside every part where the sun couldn’t reach. It created a stark contrast to the eyes and for a few moments, Lan WangJi found himself staring, unable to move his eyes away.
Wei WuXian swiped the strands of his hair in front of his forehead backwards, exposing his clean forehead. Noticing that Lan WangJi had been standing rooted on the spot at the door, he turned around and gave him a radiant beam, winking at him.
“What’s wrong? Come here. It’s warm over here. Don’t you feel cold standing there?”
Not really. Having the scene right in front of his eyes was already more than enough to scorch him from the inside. Lan WangJi took in a deep breath and walked towards him then. Wei WuXian was standing under the showerhead before he approached. The moment he came near, Wei WuXian smiled at him and clutched him on the wrist like before, pulling him over.
“Here, I’m done for now. You can use the shower first while I use the soap.”
“…En,” Lan WangJi said. He drowned his head under the shower, his gaze lowered, staring at the water pooling under his feet. He could hear the sounds of skin rubbing against skin from behind him, knowing that Wei WuXian was applying soap on his body. The rough sound of skin stroking on harsh surface gradually faded into a smooth sound of soap scrubbing against slippery skin, which did nothing to soothe the tension that was gathering in Lan WangJi’s guts.
He closed his eyes, solely focusing on the warm water pouring down on him from above when a pair of slippery hands came hugging him from behind, clutching his body tightly in a firm embrace, causing him to hitch a breath.
“Wei Ying!” Lan WangJi gritted out of shock.
“What? I want to bathe with you, Er-gege,” Wei WuXian said. Lan WangJi couldn’t see his face but he knew that he was grinning; the very same grin he used to give Lan WangJi when they were three, when Wei WuXian said the exact same line at him, and when Wei WuXian hugged him like this when Lan WangJi told him to bathe first before he can play with him.
“We’re already showering together,” Lan WangJi said, breathing heavy in his throat.
“Is that so?” Wei WuXian responded. His palms touched Lan WangJi on the sturdy muscles on his chest, his chin propped on Lan WangJi’s shoulder.
“Er-gege, am I your boyfriend now?” Wei WuXian’s heated voice pulsed right into Lan WangJi’s ears, warm breathing splashing directly on his ear shell. Wei WuXian chuckled as his hand reached where Lan WangJi’s heart was. “Your heart is pounding so fiercely. Are you nervous? Why?”
“Wei Ying,” Lan WangJi called out, the tone in his voice borderline warning yet restraining.
“Hm?” Wei WuXian purposefully dragged a tone. Pressing his face against Lan WangJi’s neck, he hummed. “Er-gege, have I ever told you how beautiful your body is? Not only do you have a stunning face, but you have a splendid body too. Do you have any idea how many girls out there are ogling at you whenever you pass by? The legendary Cold Prince, they say. You were on top of the most wanted man list those clubs secretly do every month.”
Lan WangJi heard a soft chortle by his ear, his fingers trembled ever so slightly upon feeling Wei WuXian’s chest pressing against his back. His heart was hammering hard too, every beat of it hitting Lan WangJi squarely on his weak spot.
“But it’s too bad for them,” Wei WuXian continued, voice one octave lower, smaller than before. “Because that very Cold Prince everyone has been yearning for is mine now.”
Before he can even make out what had happened, Lan WangJi had turned aggressively around, grasped him on his wrists and pushed him against the marble wall. He yelped a truncated ‘ouch’ when his back hit the solid wall, his eyes wide when met Lan WangJi in the eyes. There’s a shade of dangerous dark layer hiding beneath the light colour of Lan WangJi’s orbs and he’s staring so fervently at him as if he was about to devour Wei WuXian like a hungry wolf.
“Calm down, Lan Zhan. I learned those lines from dramas, you don’t have to be so violent even if you don’t likー mphh?!”
Lan WangJi had lurched towards him in the midst of his words, disallowing him to continue any further. Wet lips pressed against each other, warm breathing mingled in a mess. Wei WuXian’s motion was completely restrained against the wall; he can’t escape, can’t move, and all he could do was surrendering under Lan WangJi’s impatient yet passionate intimate gestures as he let his breathing be snatched away and his mouth be devoured.
The kiss felt so raw yet so natural, so needy yet so loving. Their skin slicked against each other, the friction was non-existent. It felt like they’d been kissing for hours when Lan WangJi finally let him go. Heat sprinted down south as he caught sight of Wei WuXian’s foggy eyes, yet to come back from the stupor.
“Don’t watch too many dramas,” Lan WangJi said in a deep voice.
“…ah?” Wei WuXian blurted, mind in a fog, dazed.
Lan WangJi leaned in to brush a soft kiss against his lips at that response. The next time he spoke, his voice was magnetic, echoing throughout the bathroom, blending with the sound of flowing water, but trundling right into Wei WuXian’s ears, dropping right on his heart, loud and clear.
“Yes, you are my boyfriend,” Lan WangJi said.
