NOTE: Modern AU; High school students Lan WangJi x Wei WuXian; both 15; light-hearted slice-of-life.
A/N: Daily update until the end of the story.
A story of two high school boys learning how to take care of an injured kitten.
He wasn’t lying when he said Lan WangJi would always say yes whenever he invited him over to watch a drama with him.
He remembered one time exceptionally well. It’s when he managed to borrow a Blu-Ray disc of a very famous romance drama from a classmate that he hurriedly invited Lan WangJi over to his house on the day itself, where they settled themselves comfortably on the couch, both hugging cushions as they marathoned the drama.
Honestly, Wei WuXian wasn’t a big fan of the romance genre himself — he probably watched a few himself, got the gist of it, and forgot about it the next day; most of the time, it was his mother who would always drag him over to watch with her — but he wasn’t unreceptive to the idea of figuring out what’s up with the hype so in the end, here he was, with Lan WangJi, a person he never thought would watch something like a romance drama, right by his side, eyes focused on the screen as if he’s watching some sort of extremely interesting scenes. Wei WuXian found himself perplexed by Lan WangJi’s indifferent reaction than whenever that was happening on the screen. Lan WangJi didn’t budge, he didn’t even show any expression, simply watching, poker-faced. To be fair, the drama they were watching was pretty typical; just a story of how two people found their other half under the influence of a red knot but later discovered that they’re each other’s arch enemy that they had to murder to survive. The typical plotline, the typical kind of characters; predictable and nothing amusing. The more time passed, the more Wei WuXian got distracted. He was about to ask Lan WangJi if he’s bored when he finally saw a reaction on Lan WangJi’s face.
A twitch on his eyebrow.
Instantly, he snapped his head towards the HD 58” television screen just to see that two people were on the bed, kissing aggressively, wet sounds erupted.
Wei WuXian’s brain erupted too. Without a second thought, he covered Lan WangJi’s eyes.
“Don’t look!” he said.
Lan WangJi didn’t move. And then, realising that he might still hear the vulgar sounds from the television, Wei WuXian took his hand off Lan WangJi’s eyes instead and covering them on Lan WangJi’s ears.
Lan WangJi stared at him. Wei WuXian panicked. He can still see. So, totally out of his own impulse, he carried himself onto Lan WangJi’s body and sat on his lap, utterly blocking his view from the screen.
Lan WangJi’s eyes widened; it’s the biggest reaction Wei WuXian saw from him so far.
Their distance was so close that all they could see was each other’s face. Wei WuXian could still hear the sounds from the television though. His eyes were fixed fervently on Lan WangJi’s calm light-coloured pair of orbs as he breathed heavily.
They stayed like this, not moving, simply staring; both had become a pair of statues.
And then, the sound vanished. When Wei WuXian came back to himself, he saw that Lan WangJi had held the remote controller up, pointing it as the television.
“Muted,” was all Lan WangJi said.
Wei WuXian couldn’t figure out if the warmth on his face was out of embarrassment for not figuring out that he could totally mute the sound or if it’s due to the intimate posture he’d plunged himself on Lan WangJi.
They were ten at that time. They still knew little to nothing about love.
Or that’s what Wei WuXian thought.
Lan WangJi knew love since he was three.
Or rather, Lan WangJi knew that the definition of his love was Wei WuXian since he was three.
He couldn’t remember a time when Wei WuXian wasn’t by his side; it’s like it’s all-natural, like they’re born to be together just like that. Having Wei WuXian by his side was such a natural thing that he didn’t think much nor did he ever consider that there’s anything wrong about them being intimately close despite being just friends. He thought to have Wei WuXian was a default in his life, like something that he’ll have throughout his life, something that he won’t lose.
Until when Wei WuXian asked him if he’ll get a girlfriend that his world crumbled, his heart shattered.
He was yanked back into reality.
Right, how can he assume? He shouldn’t. He will not.
That’s why he needed to act fast. He needed to tell this person, to let him know that he never considered anyone else but him.
He needed to grab onto Wei WuXian before he lost him.
That’s why he said — “Wei Ying, is the person I like.”
— He needed to mark him as his.
A moan he didn’t manage to suppress leaked from his throat when he felt Lan WangJi’s teeth on the sensitive skin of his neck, nipping lightly, then leaving behind a mark. Lan WangJi tongue was wet and warm as it licked tenderly on the bruised mark he left on fair skin before he lifted his head up to stare Wei WuXian in the face.
Wei WuXian was still pretty dazed from what Lan WangJi told him, the mist in the bathroom not helping. But he knew his body was reacting and he wanted Lan WangJi to touch him more. So, acting loyally to his needs, he took Lan WangJi’s hand and placed it on his waist.
“Touch me,” he breathed.
Lan WangJi’s grasp tightened at the mere words, drawing a hitch of breath out of Wei WuXian. Once he got over the abrupt ache, he narrowed his eyes at Lan WangJi and said,
“Prefect Lan always looks so polite from the outside but who would’ve thought that he could be so violent too, huh?” He clung his arms around Lan WangJi’s neck and leapt to wrap his legs around Lan WangJi’s waist. Lan WangJi quickly held him on his hips, holding him in place. This position gave Wei WuXian a slightly taller position than Lan WangJi. His back was pressed against the solid marble wall as he glanced down at Lan WangJi, droplets of water from the strands of his hair dripping onto Lan WangJi’s face, making him look even more beautiful than ever.
Without being able to help himself, Wei WuXian bent down and kissed Lan WangJi tenderly yet lovingly on his soft pair of lips.
“Lan Zhan, let me ask you a question,” he mumbled against their lips.
“Since when do you start liking me?”
Lan WangJi didn’t answer, simply looking at him, his expression as unreadable as always. Finding it adorable, Wei WuXian kissed him on the forehead.
“Why didn’t you tell me earlier? We could’ve done this earlier without wasting so much time!” Wei WuXian grumbled.
“You said it yourself,” Lan WangJi said then.
Wei WuXian raised an eyebrow.
Lan WangJi swallowed down his throat. No longer able to endure Wei WuXian’s burning gaze, he buried his head against Wei WuXian’s body, taking in the fresh scent of soap as he continued,
“You told me to take responsibility.”
Wei WuXian tilted his head, pondering. His fingers combed through Lan WangJi’s wet strands of hair as he let Lan WangJi kiss him on his chest, his collarbone, before his pair of soft lips landed on his hardened nipple thanks to the heat in the room.
“Ah!” he yelped.
Lan WangJi was grazing his teeth on the erected bud when he heard Wei WuXian’s voice. Thinking that he’d hurt him, he took his mouth away right away.
“Sorry, does it hurt?”
Wei WuXian shook his head with a chuckle, “It wasn’t for the pain. I was just reminded of what exactly did you mean.”
Seeing that Lan WangJi was confused, he chortled and cup him on the face.
“The whole taking responsibility thing,” he reiterated. Rubbing the tips of their noses together, his voice dropped an octave lower as he continued.
Lan WangJi’s fingers curled up on his skin, a reaction Wei WuXian captured. Knowing that he’d gotten it right, he hugged Lan WangJi’s head and said,
“I used to call you that until like, er, when we went to elementary school, didn’t we?”
Lan WangJi said nothing. He didn’t need to.
“And I used to tell everyone in kindergarten that you’re mine and no one can touch you because you’re my husband! Hahahaha! Wow, this really brings back memories. And you went along with it the entire time, even! So was it since that time? You fell for me since— ouch! Lan Zhan! Don’t bite!”
Lan WangJi’s face was burning hot, his earlobes flushed when he sucked Wei WuXian on his nipple, causing chills to sprint down Wei WuXian’s spine. He tried to struggle, trying to relish himself off the overwhelming pleasure coursing through his veins from where Lan WangJi was sucking but to no avail. Lan WangJi’s strength was immense, even more so when he was trapping him against the wall. Wei WuXian thought he’d pass out there and then, the heat foggy his head, the crushing sensation on his skin clouding his conscious when he felt his leg hit the solid floor again.
“Huh?” he blurted out of his own conscious.
The shower head was turned off, a towel was then wrapped around his body.
“Dry up,” Lan WangJi said as he did exactly that for Wei WuXian in the next second. “You will fall sick.”
Wait, that’s all?
“Lan Zhan?” Wei WuXian tested.
Lan WangJi merely gave him a look before he averted his gaze. His skin was still slightly wet from the shower, his hair was still dripping water. But Wei WuXian can still see the hint of fervour in his eyes and he refused to believe that Lan WangJi would stop just like this when they’re both obviously aroused and lusting for each other.
Something, at least? More kisses, maybe?
This can’t do. They just confessed! They needed to do something!
“Dry up first,” Lan WangJi said, still not looking Wei WuXian in the eyes.
“Then, bed,” he said in a muted whisper before he fumbled for another towel for himself.
Wei WuXian’s heart leapt to his throat.
